UNITE Student Policies

For All Students | For Graduate Students

For All Students

Please be aware of these policies:

  • Any changes to a UNITE class (i.e., grading or cancellation) must be done through the University's UNITE Administrative office at the Twin Cities campus;

  • UNITE courses are the intellectual property of the course instructor and the University of Minnesota. Attempting to view classes concurrently or access classes for which you are not registered, is strictly prohibited. Users attempting unauthorized access of UNITE classes will be prohibited indefinitely from access to all UNITE classes;

    • You may only access classes for which you are registered;
    • You may only view one class at a time: no simultaneous viewing of the same or multiple classes;
    • You must delete all downloaded UNITE lectures at the end of the semester;

  • You may need to purchase software as you would purchase a textbook.  UNITE does not provide software or funding for software.

    Some software is available for student use as part of licensing partnerships to be used in campus computer labs, downloaded to student computers or accessed online through application servers.  Some professors may also suggest free or trial software alternatives for completing projects.

    Your professor will inform you of any software requirements for courses and options for obtaining software.

Other Helpful UNITE Information and Guidelines

  • Please download the UNITE Student Guide (368k .pdf). and familiarize yourself with the contents. You will find answers to common questions as well as UNITE procedures and policies.

  • ONE STOP: As UNITE students, the University of Minnesota treats you as a regular on-campus student. As such, it is mandatory that you start using One Stop at http://www.onestop.umn.edu Image to indiate a link to a web page outside the UNITE web site, which opens in a new window.. One Stop is a home page of links to general information for students. You can access specific personal information and services through the MyU portal link on the One Stop page.You are expected to know and follow all of the policies and procedures found on the One Stop Web site.

  • BILLING STATEMENTS/ELECTRONIC BILLING: The University bills students electronically and does not send out paper billing statements. A few weeks after the term begins an e-mail will be sent to your University email account stating your bill is ready to be viewed online. Select the link in the e-mail message to view your account or view by this path: One Stop Student Home page, (under Finances) View my student account. This will list your current billing, as well as any outstanding charges. Students who are classified as Non-Resident in the University’s system, will at first have non-resident tuition applied. UNITE will need to go in and make changes to Non-Resident accounts so that resident tuition will be charged. This change will be done by the first week of the term. However, if you are a Non-Resident enrolled in both a UNITE course and an on-campus course in the same semester, the University will classify you a Non-Resident and charge you Non-Resident tuition for both UNITE and on-campus courses.

  • BILLING DUE DATE: Check your billing statement before the billing due date. If you have questions regarding your bill for the current term, please check with the UNITE office IMMEDIATELY so we can check into for you. While we are checking, you are to make payments as required, so late payment fees/installment fees are not charged to your account. If you do discover a billing error, you need to contact the University's UNITE office by the first due date of the semester in order for us to help correct the billing.

  • DUAL REGISTRATION (UNITE AND ON-CAMPUS DAY CONCURRENTLY): Students must register for the on-campus course first. The UNITE course will be added to the on-campus registration. In order to do this, please give us the day you registered on-campus and the TOTAL number of on-campus credits.

  • STUDENT GRADES: The Grade Release Authorization, on reverse side of the UNITE Registration Information Sheet, must be signed to receive grade at your home address.

  • The UNITE Registration Information Sheet must be filled out each semester you enroll.

  • Students wanting graduate credit for a course must register as a Non-Degree student in Graduate School (form: Request for Graduate Credit for non-degree students)

  • All homework should be identified with first and last name, department, course number, assignment/lab number, and company name.

  • All examinations and quizzes must be taken on the day and time scheduled by the course instructor unless students have the instructor’s permission to take at a different time.

  • By registering for UNITE classes, you enter into a legally binding contract to pay all tuition and fees, including any non-refundable fees.
